Are you sick of McDojos?

It is me again, on Yahoo Answers, I can see that there are a lot of dedicated martial artists out there. But where I live all there are...are McDojos. I can't work out at these buy your black belt through a contract club. I studied martial arts in China and Taiwan from 1991-2006. The training was awesome, the price was low to practically nothing. Here where I live now are dojos with clown teachers with high prices, their forms and fighting strategies are inferior to what I have learned over there...No I can't go back to China and Taiwan again for a long time family and my career, but I trust you guys will come up with a cool solution. Presently I teachPraying Mantis to inner city kids through a city wide program...Yet I still want to learn other things from different arts......

Are you sick of McDojos?
Hey

I can understand your dilemna, i have a quetion for you first now. Where are you located? Maybe we can find someone that you can go to that you are unaware of because many good schools remain small and obscure unlike your McDojo's.

once i know that i may be able to give a reference or two.

A great site to meet other MA from around the country is at

www.martialartsfriends.com and you can create a free account. Mine is http://martialartsfriends.com/fenris042 and you can sign up through this link http://martialartsfriends.com/signup/fri...

Here you can meet MA from all over the USA so even if I cannot find you someone maybe some one here can. It is alot like myspace.com but purely for MA. Many are Senseis and even Shihans and up.

good luck!!!
Reply:Where are you located ? I may be able to find a decent style in your area. (no guarantees though, every style has corrupt people in it.)
Reply:what i hate are the places that are more focused on sparring competitions instead of martial arts that you can use in real life to protect yourself....
Reply:to Ray....... the creator of this question lives in upstate New York near New Baltimore, he is right many of the schools in upstate New York are McDojos, expensive, goofy sport sparring karate(gets you killed in a real fight) just junk. Ray help pumpkin head out....thanks
Reply:yes i am absoluetly SICK of Mcdojos

the last time i moved i spen 7 hours online just trying to find a certified Tang Soo Do school. my gosh! everyone who studied a martial arts thinks their a grandmaster!

there is no solution really. you just have to hope youll find a good place, martial arts are dying my friends
Reply:I know just what you mean, but studying of your style will be beneficial. We all must live with a style for some time to obtain enlightenment. The Quan of Praying Mantis will be your teacher. I dislike McDojos, but I think every now and again, the experience students learn at a McDojo leads them to find a good dojo sometimes.
Reply:When a McDojo is all you have reasonable access to I don't think it hurts to train there. Have a talk with the McSensei and let him know what you're wanting to accomplish at his factory. I've trained in several styles simply because that was all that was available at any given time. McDojo's, like anything else, you'll get out of what you put into. As long as you know going in what you're doing you'll be fine. It's the people that they're duping that are the real losers in a black belt mill.
Reply:i go to a mcdojo. i think it makes a good foundation, but i, like you, want something more. that's why I'm looking into a muay thai school in my area. there are lots of mcdojos in my area. ATA has almost a monopoly on the entire region. luckily, there are a few independent schools with legitimate martial artists for senseis.
Reply:there really isn't a easy way to go about looking for a great place to train and learn... I suggest you do a lot of research into these places and see what you come up with.
