Shotokan Karate or Kyokushin Karate?

I'm doing a striking martial art to compliment my Judo training, as we don't do much/any striking training in Judo, and I want to be well prepared for a street fight as in my experience, i've almost always been outnumbered at least 2 to 1. Need a good strong art to compliment my Judo so I can defend myself quickly against multiple attackers.

Shotokan Karate or Kyokushin Karate?
neither one of these arts, you need a shoot fighting art like krav maga, juijitsu or even aikido, the arts you mention are good but shotokan and kyokushin are two different traditional japanese styles, you need something a bit more modern. good luck.
Reply:Of those two, kyokushin would be more likely to give you what you need. Shotokan is awesome, and true JKA Shotokan fighters are generally pretty tough, but kyokushin focuses primarily on training to fight full contact. With Shotokan, many schools are focusing more and more on the sports aspects of karate, whereas a HUGE part of what makes kyokushin kyokushin is that they train to compete in full contact, bare knuckle bouts. Any competition with rules is still a sport, and will hinder street effectiveness, but training in a full contact art will do that less than a point sparring, sport karate one.
Reply:i found that wado-ryu complI'mented the judo i did for 15 years growing up. and im sorry they haven't taught you the striking that there is in judo this part seems to be lost we used to do lots of striking and defending against strikes and weapons
Reply:No martial arts are superior to other martial arts

it's you. Remeber when Royce Gracie first came out it was all about ji jitsu, later Mark Coleman doing his wrestling, and now ice man i don't know what his discipline is, but he punches alot. and Crocop was pretty successful with his kicking boxing. so it's all on you just depends on how you use it. personally I like Kyokushin because I adore the founder
Reply:for me shotokan is the best :-) look at lyoto machida...:-)
Reply:I would ask why you get in so many fights? A street fight is nothing more than a clash of two ego's, which can be avoided. I doubt if you have been in that many self defense situations, where there is no choice but to fight, unless you live in a high crime area.

Not preaching but why not try working on checking your ego, and re-alizing there are very few things in this world worth physicly fighting about, before you learn more ways to hurt people?
