Drill sargeant/martial arts instructor in the US AIRFORCE?!?!?

my fiance is joining the US air force, and he is wondering if its possible to sign up for martial arts instructor?

does he have to be a martial arts instructor before he gets into the military or can you go in and they train you from the start to make you an instructor?

thanks for any suggestions

I have some sad news here for your other half. I don't believe he is going to be a martial arts instructor. That is not a job specific specialty. He will need to attend his basic training and any follow on schools, do a few years on the line. After he has proven himself, he could request an assignment to a basic training unit as cadre or as a drill sergeant. Now, with all that being said, it is possible he could teach martial arts on his time, but not getting paid by the air force. Then again, the air force may have an individual who gives some type of combative class which is part of another course. However, your boyfriend should not look forward to teaching combative or martial arts any time in the near future.
Reply:What's martial arts in the Air Force? Is that when you smack your attacker with your purse and yell help?
Reply:if he joined the air force without a guaranteed job they will put him in what ever job they need him in. It is called Air Force Needs Come First.
Reply:The Air Force doesn't have drill sergeants. They call it something else.

They will choose his job for him from a list of five. It's theoretically possible for him to become a martial arts instructor, but I've never heard of the Air Force training in martial arts.
Reply:we don't have an AFSC for martial arts instructor....some of the security forces teach combat skills but I woudn't go so far as to call them martial arts moves
