Information on getting into UFC style fighting. What martial arts to take.?

I am currently 16. I enjoy the martial arts in events such as UFC and Internationl Fight Club(Think thats what its called). I know there are many types of martial arts that these fighters use. What information should I know about how to get into this style of training?

Well the UFC is mixed martial arts so it isn't one style of training. All fighters usually train in atleast a couple different types of styles. However, most of the fighters do tend to specialize in what they're strengths are but will have a bit of training from other styles as well.

You'll definitely need Ju-Jitsu which trains you in grappling and submissions. You'll probably want to train in a style that specializes in striking as well like boxing and kickboxing and finally, alot of the fighters have a little bit of training in wrestling or some style that specializes in takedowns.

If you want to get involved, you can look for classes to join either from a gym that may offer these things or from a dojo that actually specializes in one of these martial arts.
Reply:since your 16 you need to be on the wrestling mat in high school. After all the other sports are finished practicing the wrestlers are still running. That will give you the work ethic, shape, help you with ground game and teach you defense from take down, as wrestlers are taking the athleticism to the next level. Then I would go kickboxing/Maui Thai. Kickboxing and mui Thai will help striking knees, kicks, elbows, punches. You need submission and submission defense
Reply:yeah....start wrestling first....then move on to other styles....find a gym close to u that has training for Kickboxing, jui jitsu...and others....if you're in the california area u can e mail me and i can let u know of a few good places in so cal to train at....reger81305@yahoo.com.....e mail me for more info....
Reply:It really depends on what kind of gyms are in your area, but soke up everything that is available, wrestling in school for sure, I doubt there is a mauy tai gym but Im sure there is a boxing gym, is your lucky a kickboxing gym, and you will need to learn jiu jitsu if for nothing else than learning defense but jiu jitsu is a must.
