How do you incorparate martial arts into your life?
You can't force-fit the moral, ethical, and philosophical concepts that any true martial arts expounds into your daily life. They must naturally become an integral part of your thought process, a part of your being, and a core belief system.

The advice I provide to all of my students, and I demand of all of my students, is to constantly ask questions, seek knowledge, and compare information. The more you ask, the more you learn. The more you learn, the more you understand. The more you understand, the more you comprehend. The more you comprehend, the more able you are to differentiate between what is right, sensible, ethical, and morally just, and what is not. When you achieve this, you will be well on your way to incorporating one of the major lessons of the martial arts in my opinion.

A large part of this journey are the mentors and role models you are exposed to during your journey. These should surround you in your instructor/s, your seniors, and your fellow students.

Give it time, open yourself up to new possibilities and perceptions, constantly question your own judgements and opinions, and you will slowly but surely move toward your goal and desire.

Enjoy your journey!

Reply:You should always eat right, even if you are not a marital artists, and try to train or strecth daily. Eating right will give you more energy and make you less slugish. By training daily you will get more flexible, stonger, and quicker. Remember, to be good you have to train hard.
Reply:I've been on martial arts for a year now also. I've done mostly ITF Taekwondo but a little Jeet Kune Do and Kali. Unless, I'm busy. I practice them after school in my backyard and then later that day I go to my dojang. I really suggest getting into philosphy of martial arts and life. If you have time, read The Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi. MIyamoto Musashi is an undefeated swordsman and an artist. good book. Also try reading the Tao of Jeet Kune Do by Brucee Lee. We all know Bruce Lee.
Reply:I did Kung Fu for a year, then my school closed. I thought about stopping, but I have learned so much and benefited even more. I am stronger - my muscles are so much more toned. My mind is much more focused because of the meditation exercises also. I couldn't stop. I now go to Tang Soo Do -- different enough to be a bit confusing - similar enough to be familiar.

I didn't have to incorporate martial arts into my life -- it insinuated itself into my life very subtly and I rather enjoy that it has.
Reply:Hehehehe. Maybe you have the wrong mindset? Instead of INCORPATING maybe you should INTEGRATE! Incorparate sounds like you just add it on. Integrate means to make them both one and the same. Martial arts teach you much more than how to fight :P They teach you how to MOVE. A lot of movements we make are inefficient or don't make full use of our body. Instead of just cutting meat with your arm, use your hips and gravity, after all, that is what you would do if you were throwing a punch :P

Martial arts also influences your behavior in many ways. It can be anywhere from better self-confidence to less hesitant. Maybe you'll be more couragous or less afraid to get hurt (after all you've been taking a beating a lot from MA classes :P). You know those akward situations where you are walking and you almost walk into someone, so you both stop. And then after you stop one may move, or both, sometimes even to the same spot! Perhaps your MA training will remove even the stopping. So instead of you stopping, if you see them hesitate, you go on. If you see they go on, you move aside.
Reply:I am in Taekwondo and I love it. I am starting back to college in 3 weeks. So, i have a lot to do. I will have major home work to do on top of that, I have work around my apartment to do.

So my fall schedue is totally packed.

So, all i have been doing is going to taekwondo class 5 days a week. And i enjoy it.

I practice a lot. I also walk to and from class.

I hope that helps.
