i'm 14 and i want to take a martial arts(NOT TAE KWAN DO) that would involve hitting, kicking, and punches, etc. I want to focus more on fighting not necessarily getting the person to the ground. I think it would help with some of my anger problems,....i am very strong so i dont think it would a problem to train....SO which do u think would be best for me???
What martial arts would be best 4 me???ima girl?
Your best bet is to visit a variety of local schools and take a free class then make a decision based on where you feel most comfortable.
Don't focus on a style to begin with but rather the training facility and feel you get from your free classes.
Lastly, avoid any place that requires you to sign a contract.
Reply:smith and wesson training
Reply:Kick boxing. Choose the class that does total body. They work on your fists and your kicks. I took it for years and loved it.
Reply:karate is good for you. my ex g/f used to do that. she was pretty good. i was never interested in that, so that's why i box. but karate is good!
Reply:juitsu is more for girls you're age and ninjuitsu is more for boys 9-14
Reply:Judo will be a good experience for you.
Reply:Well if you don't want to go on the ground you should look at kick boxing or muay thai.
But most importantly check out the schools around you. Find out what school seems to be the best and choose the fighting style accordingly.
Reply:um it doesn't sound like you want martial arts. you just want to fight. get a punching bag or try kickboxing. but tae kwon do is really good, i've known many people who do or have done it and loved it. i wouldn't knock it out till you try it. cuz most martial arts are bascially about getting the person to the groud, as you put it. and its not necessarily about getting them to the ground its about getting them to surrender and back off, and knowing how to channel your anger and control it.
Reply:Nin Jutsu and Judo are techniques designed to channel the attacker´s force and redirect it to him. Nerve endings and joints in the oponent´s body are used as the means of defense.
Reply:If you are looking for a striking art that would permit you to blow off a maximum amount of steam, I don't think you'd be able to beat some good ol' muay Thai. Of course, the problem is finding a good school. If you live in a bigger city, then you'll probably be able to find a place, but the gyms are on the obscure side so you might have to ask around.
If you can't find a muay Thai gym, then you can probably find a kickboxing or western boxing gym. Both of those "arts" (if you want to call them martial arts. I do.) allow you to really vent your frustrations because a lot of your practice time involves beating on a bag.
Most popular martial arts simply aren't going to give you the ample time to practice hitting a target as hard as you can in order to give you some catharsis. The only exception I can think of is kyokyushin karate, which is a pretty rough form of full contact karate. Look into it if you can.
However, to ask the honest opinion of what type of martial art a girl should take, I gotta say Brazilian jiujitsu. It's a ground grappling art, but that sort of training is absolutely necessary to women in my mind because of its sheer practicality in defending against rape. But that's just an unsolicited opinion.
Anyway, good luck. Hope you find something that works out for you.
Reply:Kata - This is a martail art that involves alot of strength and flexibility. It is more of a showy kind of art rather than street fighting or sparing. If you like gymnastics, you will love this
Reply:Well if you want to punch and kick something you should start kickboxing. I stated going a year ago and it's really fun. I also do Jujutso but you don't get to hit alot of things.
Reply:None you will always lose against a guy best defense is kickem in the nutts or hitem in the throat
Reply:Kenpo.
Reply:some form of karate
Reply:I would go for kick boxing if tae kwon do is out.
Reply:Krav Maga, which is an Israeli self defense system which focuses on inflicting as much harm as possible in a little amount of time. Muay Thai would be good if you want to fight. Very intense and destructive. Great sport fighting.
Reply:most of the ppl in this room have no idea wat they r talking n suggesting u....
well u r interested in strking form n not the ground so here r the list
if u really wanna b brutal striker then go for muay thai,i cant advice u boxing coz u also wanna practice how to kick,so in my openion either go for muay thai or kick boxing.......
they r very tough n fun...
but if u wanna use yr art in real life situation then go for krav maga or scientific fighting congress.....both will teach u how to fight dirty, punch, kick, joint, lock, weapon defence, ground fight
Reply:Try jujitsu,or Judo possibly hapkido eye gouges and such but most effective.Just be prepared to hurt someone after learning these arts. It's like a gun you can get killed or kill someone.
Reply:I take TKD. I'm a purple belt.Visit the website to see if ya like it.
Reply:Everyone so far has just told you what they like to do.
The answer to your anger problem lies elsewhere. If you want to find peace, then find it by dealing with your frustrations by first, acknowledging them, and second, by taking back the control in your life by making your own plan to solve the issues. Sometimes you might need some help from a professional (i.e. family doctor, counselor, friends, family etc.) to start your journey to healing.
As far as fighting goes, don't. It never solves anything. However, if you want a sports outlet for your frustrations, then that is a different thing.
Still, you need to decide yourself what sport is best, and it is best to visit some gyms and watch people train. Eventually you may find a style that you like. Or, perhaps you have friends or know someone locally who does martial arts. Ask if you can tag along and watch them train one day.
Most martial arts do not work very well for anything other than exercise and self discipline. They all exist in their own little worlds. A judo black belt will lose in a boxing match against a boxer. A wrestler will lose in an MMA forum. An MMA expert will lose in a judo competition against a judo black belt. A boxer will lose against a wrestler in his or her turf. All will lose to the street thug's cowardly attack with a bottle from behind.
The mixed martial arts forums that are so popular are mainly entertainment spectacles. That is why some martial artists do not enter them.
Those that need to learn real fighting skills are military and police. Although they train in many of these techniques, they all resort to hand to hand combat as the very last resort. Weapons are much more effective and safer for the user. The police use tasers and pepper spray instead of using their "deadly ninja powers" for a reason.
So, see martial arts as sports. Choose based on what you like not on other's recomendations. Be aware of the risks of "real" sparring where you actually get hit a lot (brain and pituitary damage potential even with protection, leg nerve deadening from being kicked, etc.)
Although I am a boxer, and although you have said you want a striking martial art, perhaps Judo might be something to at least consider. It is one of the few traditional martial arts that can be used for self-defense, as you can apply some techniques to protect yourself without seriously injuring an untrained assailant. Wrestling is also good for that same reason. Or, take a self-defense class where they will teach you the truth: avoid trouble, run when confronted, and use a few simple techniques if absolutely cornered so you can escape to run. (Martial artists often advise "run with pride')
Any striking sport involves direct assault, and there are few instances where that can be used without possibility of litigation.
Despite all that, if you are still with me, striking sports are fun to learn if you have the self discipline to confine their use to the only place they belong: the sporting ring.
Boxing is fun, and here you best learn how to punch. The conditioning is the most brutal.
Queenbury rules did away with the dirty stuff long ago, but if you also want kicking, MuayThai still allows kicking, elbows, knees, the works. Karate and kick boxing are other alternatives.
Check them all out. But mind, judo or wrestling might be best for you. And that from a boxer.
Good luck!
