Is physical conditioning the most important aspect of being successful in pro Mixed Martial Arts?

My buay thai instructor told me that physical conditioing is one of the most important aspect of being successful in MMA. He said to me if you have phenomonal endurance and muscle endurance and great conditioing in general, this can make up for some skills you lack, it may be grappling, striking or submissions. He said that pro MMA fighters who revolve their training around extreme conditioning and also striking, grappling and submissions, they will be a very complete MMA fighter. He also said that an MMA fighter with superb grappling/striking ability with good conditiong vs. a fighter with good striking/grappling abilty with superb conditiong will win. He quoted "imagine going all 3 rounds and swining like its still the 1st round" He also said that fighters with great conditiong has very high self confidence...??

fitness is paramount in any fighting art-your ability irrespective of how good you are-will be of no use to you if you find yourself knackered ten seconds into a bout/street situation-your muay thai instructor is a wise man-worth listening to IMO.
Reply:Thats True Watch the Nick Diaz VS. Gomi Fight pride match
Reply:I would say thats true...unless your like Tank and can just knock people out in 1 round cause im sure he cant go the distance maybe in his prime....
Reply:from personal experience ... ive fought a lot, especially for my life and ive learned a few things ... with out the physical conditioning you're up a creek. therefore, to be good at any martial art you need to have good conditioning. the idea of extreme conditioning isnt necessarily accurate because theres an upper limit to the hearts ability to pump blood. creative conditioning sounds more appropriate. things like deep knee bends and running / training in the rain are very very good.
Reply:Probably you can't join the force if you are not fit and healthy you must be a strong and fit mental and physical being otherwise your performance is not good.I think before you join that MMA fighter they will giveu an examination both physical, mental and IQ or academics. So if you think you are qualified of that kind of force so have a go. Good luck to your endevour.
Reply:U also need mental balance. If ur over confident u might see the ceiling real quick. If your scared u might as well lay down and take a whoppen. And yes conditioning is very important. If u don't have cardio ur screwed. U won't last long if your a good fighter whos out of shape. I was like that once. It's not fun. Also try and stay in your weight class. If u change it, u'll feel a lot different in a fight. I can throw u way of track (sometimes). So keep fightin maybe we'll fight one another some day ;)
Reply:Yes conditioning is a very big part of it, usually a fight will end because a person is tierd and makes a mistake, if you have good technique tho you don't need to have as much conditioning because you will not use as much energy when performing techniques but when your going up against someone who is also technicaly educated the conditioning is what will get you through

I think it's up to question who would win, the guy wo is more technical or the guy with more conditioning but if either guy has very poor conditioning or technique most likely they would loose against someone who is more balanced say 50/50

Experience will also play a big part, someone who has a lot of experience will know how to use their energy most efectively and would beat a younger guy who is perhaps more fit but not as experienced as them, happons all the time
Reply:I don't know if I would say it is the most important aspect since experience plays a factor in all this. It is certainly number two I think depending on how you feel about the experience factor and it is one of the things a fighter actually has direct control over. A fighter should never lose a fight due to a lack of conditioning unless they took the fight on short notice or had some kind of injury that precluded them from training to their full potential for a fight. This along with experience or lack of experience and that of your opponents are what often times influence the outcome of a fight and the approach I use in training fighters.
Reply:Yes it is very important but for those who are disabled and can not maintain that kind of shape, they are not out of luck either, knowledge is still power and though your form may not be as good or as strong it may be enough to save your hide!!
