I havent trained much since my shoulder dislocation 3 months ago. Pre-injury I was training up to 20 hours a week for my martial arts. Yesterday at practice I trained very hard for the first time in months. Im talking bagwork, forms, plymetrics, running, and so on. Later on that day when I come home, my head is just pounding with a headache. This had never happend before. I shake it off and do some "iron shirt practice" with my sifu later that night. We then proceed into a light jog, then my quad muscle locks up and I go to the ground and cant move my leg for approx. 10 minutes.
Did I come back too hard? And why does my head hurt?
Headache after training?
Headaches after wushu training happen to me a lot during the wushu season. The main reason is because I eat a lot less during that time, and work my body a lot harder. I have this habit where after I compete in a wushu tournament, I slightly slack-off for a week, and when I go back to class and train vigorously for the next, I tend to "overdo" it. And I guess its just one of those cycles where when you finally get to take a break from all that hard work, and suddenly you go back and try to "run the marathon" again--your whole body goes into pain.
So enough said, I think the main reason why you have headaches is because you were slightly "inactive" for months, and when you came back, you tried to go back to your routine. Its important whenever you go back to anything, you have to start off lightly (just like if you pull a muscle, you have to slowly stretch it out bit by bit after resting).
Ah, and I also agree with "niconova" about the fluid part. You might be dehydrating yourself if you're sweating so much. But whatever you do, DO NOT drink Gatorade (I know this through experience)!
Reply:It's cool you take martial arts. If you don't stretch to warm up your muscles before you train then their will be a pretty good chance you will sprain your ankle. Your head hurts because you either trained to hard or are not breathing properly or maybe even both. You may have never felt this before because you stopped training as much and your body isn't use to it. Hope I helped! I wanted to make my answers as short and as lucid as possible. Martial arts rocks!
Reply:Have you put on a few pounds? I'd get your blood pressure check. You can definately get a headache from your blood pressure being high.
Good Luck
Reply:Have your been upping your fluid intake? If I train hard and don't drink enough the first thing that happens to me is a headache. From what you say, you've been "off" because of an injury and then went back to train intensively. You said you went for a run and your leg muscle locked up. That's a sure sign. Fluid depletion. I would suggest easing back into it and drink.
