im 13 years old turning 14 in april. i want to learn some kind of martial arts.

I like swords so i heard about kendo but i heard thats ALL sword training.

is there anythying that has sword training plus teaches you self defence/training without weapons also?

What type of martial arts is for me?
Jiu-jitsu which includes Kobudo ( weapons training ) and of course self defence !!!
Reply:chito ryu karate teachs most weapons
Reply:kuunk fu too!
Reply:San Soo Kung Fu
Reply:Korean martial arts also have sword, stick etc.
Reply:Most okinawan in origin arts teach kobudo the use of weapons but not for purposes of self defense as they would soon be shut down by the law.

They teach rokushaku bo which means literally 6 foot stick or staff kama a hand scythe meant for harvesting rice eku or oar technique nun chaku 2 short sticks joined by horse hair rope sai a 3 pronged truncheon the center prong being longer and straighter than the other 2 tonfa which a lot of police officers all over the world now carry it was once a handle for turning a grindstone for rice. All common farmers and fishermen tools turned into weapons because they weren't allowed to posses weapons.

These weapons are taught by

GOJU RYU

WADO KAI

CHITO RYU

UECHI RYU

SHOTOKAN

SHORIN RYU

SHORIN JI KEMPO

ISSHIN RYU

YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO LEARN THESE WEAPONS TO ATTAIN ANY RANK SO THERE ARE INSTRUCTORS WHO NEVER BOTHERED TO LEARN THEM
Reply:Look up Kali. Kali is a Filipino Martial Art that first teaches you about the angles of striking (you use weapons before fist). The most basic weapon you start out with are sticks (made out of ratan). You can train with single or double stick, but once you are really good at the angles you can progress to staff, dagger, sword, or shortstick. -Shrug- Just a personal opinion that you should open the box and train different weapons AND open fist.
Reply:Japanese or Chinese.... Iknow I am biased. A real Japanese school will not let you touch a weapon for years. A weapon is supposed to be an extension of self. If you do not have YOU as a weapon then the weapon is a seperate entity. Chinese such as Yi Li Chuan has a weapon at each level... novice to Black belt and beyond.
